Baseball Squid by Meg Lyman
6×6 Gouache on Cradled Gessobord
$100 - e-mail to buy
I have stopped working on this. It doesn’t feel finished to me, but I can’t think of what else to do. It works well enough, and I’m about ready to give up on it. Bad post-scan color balancing aside, does anyone have suggestions?

Gosh, I don’t know what more you could do to this one Meg. I really like it “as is”, this squid looks like he’s ready to kick some arse at baseball!
I like the brown tones contrasting with the green and the shading looks really good. I really can’t think of what else you could do to it to make it feel finished?

Megasaurus! It looks done to me. The only thing that could possibly make it more finished is to cut up a couple of those mini-bats to make a frame for it - and that’s an arts & crafts/woodworking thing not a painting thing. Don’t go there, it’ll make you crazy!

Thanks for the feedback!
Rita, I got some suggestions from a friend at art class last week - did you interpret the far “bump” as his other eye, or a concussion?
Kayzilla! That mini-bat idea is fabulous. It’s on 2-inch cradled board, so it’d totally work. However, I don’t know if I want to go crazier… pondering…
